Paper Fashion Show 2019

For 16 years, The ONE Paper Fashion Show shines light on Denver talent. Designers create fashions from paper donated by paper mills which are then showcased at the grand runway show and voted on by a panel of judges. This all-volunteer organized and run fundraiser, helps support not only the mission of The One Club for Creativity Denver; to elevate Denver art and design to the national level, but also the non-profit Downtown Aurora Visual Arts, a local community organization that provides after-school arts programs for urban youth.

With four months and hundreds of hours of preparation, design and creating, Team ArtHouse entered the Paper Fashion Show with a high-fashion white and gold paper gown titled Zephyrus; God of the West Winds, paying homage to the theme of the show 'Flight Without Wings.' The gown is made entirely of French Paper company paper with the exception of brads used at attachment points and a hoop at the bottom to allow for walkability. The inspiration for the gown came from wind and air currents, literally the natural phenomenon that allow animals, machines, insects and humans to fly, as well as meteorological charts and maps that show the paths of weather, wind and air in a diagrammatic and structured way. The gown was brought to life by Amber Dextrous, a local drag queen, who shimmied, posed and worked the runway, captivating the audience with her performance and stage presence.
